| Robotics 101 - Online Education |
Welcome to Robotics 101!
This website is your source of informative online courses. Our courses cover microcontrollers, robotics, and related electrical, electronics and mechanical systems. We charge a minimal fee to access most of the courses. However, feel free to try Robotics 101 - An Introduction to Microcontrollers at no charge. Our online courses are available at http://moodle.robotics101.com or click on any of the "Online Courses" links.
To support our courses, we have a new online store. Through the store, you will be able to purchase items required by the online courses. Presently, we are selling PIC microcontrollers, programmers, programmer software, and compilers. Feel free to browse through the store.
This website is always under development. As products improve and technologies change, the online courses and this website must change to keep up. Stop by frequently to see how we have changed.
Also check out our sister site Kool Skool Online, for additional online courses.
Under Development
At this time, I am concentrating on the first of my introductory robotics courses: Robotics 101 - An Introduction to Microcontrollers. This course covers:
- An Introduction to PIC Microcontrollers
- Interfacing to Microcontrollers
- Preparing to Program a Microcontroller
- mikroBasic and Other Programming Languages
- Numbering Systems and Symbols
- Basic BASIC Programming
- Mathematical Functions
- Program Flow
- Specialized Commands
- Advanced Program Flow
- Storing Data in Memory
- Projects
In this course, students will learn how to program the 14-pin Microchip PIC16F676 microcontroller. The PIC16F676-I/P microcontroller is available from Digikey for about $2.48 US each.
The programming language to be used is MikroBasic by MikroElektronika. MikroElektronika has a demo version of their compiler which is easily adequate for this course. You can upgrade to the full version of MikroBasic for $99 US - shipping not included.
I will consider two different microcontroller programmers: the Q150 by kitsrus.com, and a version of Nigel Goodwin's parallel port programmer. The first programmer uses the Micropro software, while the second uses the Micro Engineering Labs programmer software. I hope to have the programmers and respective software available in our online store soon.
A Laboratory Manual will be available to accompany the Introduction to Microcontrollers. Although Robotics 101 - An Introduction to Microcontrollers will be free of charge, the laboratory manual will cost $25 US to access.
The next online course which I have been considering is An Introduction to TIG Welding. This course will cover the theory required to understand this welding process, and how it can best be applied.
Future Course Development
The following courses have been considered for development:
- Intermediate Microcontroller Programming and Applications
- Advanced Microcontroller Programming and Applications
- Pneumatics and Hydraulics
- Machine Shop Practices
- Introductory Manual Drafting
- An Introduction to AutoCAD
- An Introduction to CNC Programming
- Robot Navigation Systems
- An Introduction to GPS
- and many more.
If you have particular courses that you would like to develop, or have me develop, drop me an email. Courses pertaining to microcontrollers, control systems, robotics or engineering are hosted on robotics101.com, while courses covering other disciplines are hosted on KoolSkoolOnline.com.
Thank you for visiting our website. I hope you found it rewarding.
